The Bruins defeat Sac State 4-0!

Well it’s official; the Bruins dominate Sacramento State 4-0 with a quick doubles point follows by a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #4 singles by Amit Inbar, a 6-0, 6-2 win at #3 by Matt Brooklyn and a 7-6, 6-1 clich at #6 by Kallim Stewart. Holden Seguso and Abid at #2 and #4 each had match points, as Nick Meister was up a set and break at the top spot.

All in all, it was definitely a solid first round win; Sacramento State is a good team but we came out fired up and focused as it undoubtedly showed. While there were definitely points that each guy was a bit sloppy, I think first round nerves and jitters played a part. It alway feels good to get that first win under our belt and lays a good foundation for the remainder of the tourney.

Above all, as Coach Martin said in his post-game speech, it feels darn good to be out there competing! It was our first match since USC over three weeks ago and the entire team was as excited as I was last night! Like I said, it’s here, the NCAA tournament is finally here!

Tonight we will grab another team dinner in Westwood tonight before a tough match tomorrow against Cal at 1pm. Even though we have beaten them twice, each match has been very tight as I can assure you tomorrow will be no different. This is for a trip to Athens and you can bet the Bears want to go badly and are going to come hard at us with everything they have. The past does no matter as the NCAA is a brand new season.

If any Buin faithful are free, come on out and cheer on your Bruins. We need your support. As always, go bruins!
